The UEFA deadline Scottish clubs will have to adhere to as governing body lays out timetable to finish the season

UEFA has set a hard and fast deadline to finish domestic seasons, according to the head of Serie A.

Football across Europe has been shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, with games still to be completed.

Initially UEFA had intended to finish all domestic leagues, as well as the Champions League and Europa League, by June 30 but there is a growing realisation that the date chosen may be unrealistic.

It's feared that the Scottish Premiership may not be able to resume until September, leaving the question of how to finish the 2019-20 season while still playing the 2020-21 campaign.

And according to the president of the Lega Serie A, a resolution will have to be found by the end of May 2021.

Gabriele Gravina told Corriere della Sera: "The priority for football is the health of everyone and solidarity.

"When we go back to playing will depend on the virus.

"Our plan is clear: to respect the value of sporting competitions.

"The goal is to finish the leagues, giving a definitive table.

"We understand that starting in May will be difficult but we can go until July. We're trying to adapt the situation to our reality.

"We don't want to run into next season because there's the European Championship to think about.

"We have a deadline: to finish by the end of May 2021."
