Nottingham Forest face January transfer decision over prolific striker

As we edge closer and closer to the January transfer window, speculation surrounding whether clubs will dip into the market grows.

Nottingham Forest may consider adding to their squad in the New Year, as they look to continue their push for promotion to the Premier League.

One area of the pitch that has increasingly been talked about in need to extra firepower is the striker department.

Forest currently have Lewis Grabban and Rafa Mir at the City Ground, with the latter on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Grabban has been in fine form this season, bagging 10 goals in the Championship, while Mir is yet to find the back of the net in his loan spell on Trentside.

With talk of Forest potentially bringing in another striker in the New Year, one option that sections of supporters have called the club to act on is recall Tyler Walker from his loan spell at Lincoln City.

The 23-year-old is on a season-long loan with the League One side, and has been a regular figure for the Imps this term.

In 24 appearances so far this season, Walker has scored 10 goals for Lincoln including three in his last five outings.

Sabri Lamouchi confirmed in September that Forest could recall the forward in the New Year.

“We have reflected on this, but unfortunately he can come back just in January, not before,” said the Forest manager .

“It is good to see him doing well, of course.

“Tyler in Lincoln is doing well, so that is one example of the benefit of going on loan.”

With Mir yet to break his goalscoring duck this term, it is no surprise that fans would like to see Walker given an opportunity in the Garibaldi.

Walker led to line for Mansfield Town last season, where he scored 26 goals in 52 appearances for the Stags.

The striker is proving to be prolific in front of goal, but if he were to return to the City Ground, would he overtake Grabban as Lamouchi’s first choice striker?

The answer – probably not.

At 23 years of age, Walker is beginning to enter his prime years as a striker, and needs to be playing week in, week out, in order to maximise his potential.

That being said, Forest would like to have someone with his goalscoring record on their books.

Seeing out the remainder of his loan spell at Sincil Bank would probably be in Walker’s best interests, but should Forest use the recall option in his loan deal then they would be adding an in-form striker to their squad.
