The two things Gabriel Martinelli can't believe he's done at Arsenal after £6m transfer

Gabriel Martinelli has opened up on his first season at Arsenal.

The Brazilian wonderkid became the Gunners' first signing of last summer's transfer window when he completed a £6m move from Ituano in early July.

It was initially expected that the youngster would be eased into action, but instead of starting out with the U23's or U18's he's been part of the first-team since his arrival and has certainly benefited from Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan departing the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta on the 'very special' FA Cup

Both Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta have showed faith in Martinelli for some of the Gunners' biggest games this season and the forward has not let either head coach down when given the chance.

He has netted against both Liverpool and Chelsea away from home - two things he didn't expect to have done so early into his Arsenal career.

"That's the result of hard work – not just mine, but from my whole family and a squad that has been welcoming since day one,"he told FourFourTwo. "I never thought I would score against Liverpool and Chelsea so soon, though – that’s inexplicable."

After netting twice in an entertaining 5-5 draw in the Carabao Cup back in October, Jurgen Klopp hailed Martinelli as a generational talent.

And the teenager is grateful for the Reds boss' comments.

"I saw what he said and was really happy to hear that from one of the best managers in the world," he added.  "It shows that I'm doing a good job so far, and I thank him for the nice words."

That goal against Chelsea took Martinelli's tally to 10 across all competitions this season.

His performances have also seen him linked with moves to Liverpool as well as Real Madrid, but the Gunners are unlikely to entertain any offers for the teenager this summer.

Also in this month’s issue, Marcus Rashford speaks about his hopes for Manchester United and England over the next decade, Erling Haaland explains why he decided to sign for Borussia Dortmund and siblings Reece and Lauren James discuss their futures.
