The two Spurs men in Robbie Savage's team of the season as Liverpool & Man City players dominate

Football fans will have to wait for Premier League action to return next weekend with the first international break of 2019 taking place.

The perfect time to look back at the season and assess how players have done, Robbie Savage has decided to name his team of the season for The Mirror given there are only eight games left to play.

Liverpool and Man City unsurprisingly dominate the team given their impressive form in the title race, with two players from Spurs and one Manchester United star completing the starting XI.

Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen are usually not far away when it comes down to picking a team of the season, yet there is no place for either of the trio in Savage's 2018/19 team.

Jan Vertonghen and Son Heung-Min are the two Spurs players included after impressive campaigns.

The former has once again been a rock at the back for Mauricio Pochettino's side in the Premier League, while the latter has been in sensational form in front of goal as Spurs had to make do without Kane through injury at the turn of the year.

So, who else is in Savage's team?

Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson is the man who gets the nod between the sticks, with Vertonghen taking his part in the back four alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson.

The ex-Leicester City man then opts for Fernandinho and Manchester United's Paul Pogba in midfield despite the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Declan Rice and David Silva making a name for themselves over the course of the campaign.

Raheem Sterling, Bernardo Silva and Son then complete the team as they provide support to Man City's Sergio Aguero upfront.
