Chris Hughton has admitted he had concerns over Harry Kane's mobility during his brief loan spell at Norwich City and has praised the Tottenham striker for his determination and work rate.
The England captain spent the second half of the 2012/13 season on loan at Carrow Road where Hughton was the manager at the time.
Injuries restricted Kane to just three appearances in yellow, however, Hughton got a close-up impression of the man who would go on to become a world-class number nine.
Ahead of Kane's return to Norwich, Hughton has admitted that whilst there was never any doubts over his application and finishing ability, he did have concerns about whether he would be mobile enough to cut it at the top of the Premier League.
"What I saw in him was a desire to do well," Hughton told Sky Sports ahead of kick-off.
"Did I see him having the mobility and flexibility he has in his game now? Probably not.
"He was a very good finisher. He would stay out after training for half an hour every day, left foot, right foot. Some of the things I had been told before were facts but what I didn't see was the type of mobility that he's gone on to have.
"Credit to the club, Tottenham Hotspur, but I think most credit to him (Kane) because he's shown great desire. He doesn't miss many games.
"You're looking at an individual that so desperately wants to play and score goals that, generally, he's disappointed if he's taken off or doesn't play. I think that's because he wants to continue doing the job that he is doing."
