The two names in the frame to replace Neil Warnock as Cardiff City boss

Cardiff City expect to appoint a new manager in the next 72 hours.

That is the word coming out of our friends at Wales Online , following Neil Warnock's departure from the Bluebirds on Monday.

Warnock called time on his three-year spell with the Welsh outfit on Monday, believing it was the right moment to call it a day before his reputation at the club soured.

Warnock took the Bluebirds into the Premier League, but could not keep them up last season as they were relegated back to the Championship.

And things have not exactly started brilliantly this season, with the Bluebirds in 14th place in the table, seven points adrift of the play-off places.

Chairman Mehmet Dalman told BBC Radio Wales: "I think Vincent [Tan, the owner] wants someone younger with a more offensive type of manager. The process is ongoing at the moment, we’re down to a very small number of names.

"I’ll be very surprised if we don’t announce something within the next 72 hours, certainly by the weekend."

And there are two names in the frame to replace Warnock - both with London connections.

Neil Harris, who was in charge at Millwall for four years up until he resigned in October, and Lee Bowyer, the current Charlton Athletic boss, are the two men that Wales Online say are the leading candidates to take over.
