The two members of Mikel Arteta's coaching team at Arsenal ahead of his first game in charge

Mikel Arteta is preparing to take his first game as Arsenal head coach after confirmation of his appointment came on Friday.

The Spaniard watched the 0-0 draw with Everton at Goodison Park from the stands as the Gunners played their last game under interim head coach Freddie Ljungberg. The match bought about Arsenal's first away clean sheet of the season.

Arteta has since took over from Ljungberg, taking training ahead of the Boxing Day clash against Bournemouth, when he will be in the dugout as Arsenal boss for the first time.

As part of his preparations, Arteta is also putting together his backroom staff who will support him during his time in the job, speculation over who could join the former midfielder has been rife.

Arsenal: A look back at 2019

There is currently two members of staff who will be joining Arteta in the dugout.

Everton and Manchester United assistant manager Steve Round has confirmed that he has joined Arsenal as assistant head coach.

"Mikel called me in the week and asked me if I would join his staff and I jumped at the chance straight away," he told Talksport

"It's a great opportunity at a magnificent football club and just having brief conversations with Mikel I think he's going to be a really, really top manager."

It has also been confirmed by Arsenal and Arteta that Freddie Ljungberg will be staying at the club as part of the backroom staff.

There was speculation that the Swede could be leaving the club in order to take up the managerial role at Malmo, however, it seems that it is now not the case.

It is likely that more backroom staff appointments will be made over the coming weeks.
