The two Leeds neighbourhoods where Covid rates are plummeting

Two areas in Leeds currently have the lowest infection rates across the city as the rest of the city struggles to fend off coronavirus.

According to the government’s coronavirus dashboard, Harehills North and Beeston East have seen a sharp decrease in the number of positive cases.

Data for Harehills North show in the seven days to February 1, there were 31 confirmed cases of the virus but this is now down by 24 (43.6 per cent).

The cases rate for the area currently stands at 389.7 per 100,000 people.

During the same period, Beeston East saw 27 confirmed cases - down by 35 (56.5 per cent). The infection rate now stands at 392 per 100,000 people.

In the seven days to February 1, 6,887 coronavirus cases were found in Leeds and the infection rate for the city now stands at 862.2 per 100,000 people.

On the government’s interactive map, the two areas are the only ones that are in blue.

Surrounding areas across the city are light and dark purple meaning the case rates are over 400 per 100,000 people.
