The player Man Utd fans want to join Jadon Sancho at club next summer

Manchester United failed to sign top target Jadon Sancho this summer - and now fans want the club to swoop for him and James Maddison in the next transfer window.

Borussia Dortmund winger Sancho was top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's transfer list at the start of the summer, according to latest reports.

It is believed United's failure to qualify for the Champions League counted against them in their pursuit of the England international, and manager Solskjaer swooped for Wales winger Daniel James instead.

James was one of three signings delivered by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, along with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and world-record defender Harry Maguire.

The three could make their debuts in United's Premier League opener against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.

But the player the fans wanted was 19-year-old former Manchester City winger Sancho.

And the teenager was top of Solskjaer's shopping list too, according to the Evening Standard .

Now supporters have called for United to renew their attempts to sign Sancho - as well as Leicester's England under-21 midfielder Maddison, who has admitted he was a big Red Devils fan when Cristiano Ronaldo was at Old Trafford.

Maddison, 22, wrote on Twitter : "Cristiano’s always been a big figure. I used to support United back when he was a main figure of the team. How he carried himself on the pitch and off the pitch – he was the swag man!”

One fan said: "Bag him in with Sancho next summer" while another added Bruno Fernandes to the mix, saying: "Sancho, Fernandes and Maddison next szn".

However, another fan was sceptical after the world-record fee United paid for Maguire this summer, saying: "I guess Leicester gonna suck another 80 mil again from us."

United went toe-to-toe with Tottenham for Fernandes during the closing weeks of the summer transfer window.

Fernandes was furious with Sporting Lisbon for turning down a late deadline day bid from Tottenham , according to reports in Portugal.

Tottenham were said to have tabled a bid worth a total of £70 million last Wednesday night to meet Sporting's valuation.
