The two conditions that clubs interested in signing Dwight Gayle are facing this January

Newcastle United will only consider an irresistible offer for Dwight Gayle when the January window swings open for business on Wednesday.

Gayle has struggled for game-time this season despite a lean spell for the Toon front-line in recent months.

After overcoming calf problems, Steve Bruce has kept faith for long periods with Joelinton, Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin and more lately Andy Carroll.

Gayle netted 24 goals for West Bromwich Albion last season in the Sky Bet Championship and a host of promotion chasing sides are monitoring his situation.

But United know that he is a sought after target for those looking to climb into the Premier League and have set his fee accordingly.

With Gayle deemed hot property in the Championship it is believed that Newcastle will only entertain bids north of £15million.

Gayle himself will also drive a hard bargain in terms of wages because at 29 - and having 18 months left on his Toon contract - he knows this could be his last big packet.

West Brom, Fulham and Nottingham Forest are thought to be those in the mix who are interested in landing Gayle.

But a second complication for those sides will be Newcastle's insistence behind the scenes that Gayle won't be let go unless they have a replacement back-up striker.

Newcastle have been offered some interesting options on loan and chief scout Steve Nickson also has a list of possible permanent deals.
