The two Chelsea players to blame for Chelsea's defeat to Manchester City

Chelsea were unlucky to come away from the Etihad Stadium without any points on Saturday night.

Frank Lampard's side opened the scoring against Manchester City, when N'Golo Kante steered an effort underneath Ederson.

But a deflected Kevin de Bruyne shot and a Riyad Mahrez effort turned the tables before half-time and City maintained that 2-1 lead in the second half.

The Blues enjoyed more of the possession, away at the Premier League champions, and could and perhaps should have claimed a point from the match.

But that Mahrez strike proved to be decisive and the Sky Sports pundits admitted that you cannot make mistakes against a team like City and get away with it.

Mahrez cut inside left-back Emerson before firing in with his trusty left foot and Manchester United legend Roy Keane, on pundit duty in the studio, felt Emerson and Mateo Kovacic got it all wrong.

He said: "You give the ball away cheaply against Man City and you're in trouble.

Mason Mount: We want to win trophies, we want to be top of the league

"There's two players, are the communicating? The one place he can't go is where he ends up. These are two experienced players, we've seen this guy do it over and over again, he cuts back in on his stronger foot and the good teams punish you.

"Football's about moments and Chelsea get two moments wrong and they get punished.

"They're comfortable, with numbers and players in the right positions, if they do their jobs properly.

"They didn't do their jobs properly, you have to show him down the line, you have to, there's no excuse. It's too easy to cut inside."
