The two Bristol restaurants named among the top 100 in the UK by OpenTable

A thriving food scene may already be Bristol's worst kept secret but yet another top accolade has been given to two of the city's restaurants.

Earlier this week Casamia was named one of the best restaurants in the UK in the prestigious Harden's Guide 2020 and now it's the turn of Wilson's and Paco Tapas to be handed some praise.

Restaurant booking service OpenTable has announced its top 100 restaurants in the UK based on diner reviews and the two popular Bristol restaurants have both been named on it.

While only the top 10 are ranked, and both of the Bristol eateries missed out on a top 10 spot, they have both secured a spot in the top 100.

What's even more impressive is the fact 77 per cent of the list is made up of restaurants in London - meaning Bristol, Newcastle, Glasgow and Manchester are the only cities to have more than one eatery on the list.

Wilson's opened on Chandos Road in 2016 and is the first venture for Jan Ostle and Mary Wilson.

Since opening, the Redland bistro has earned widespread praise and plenty of glowing reviews, including being named one of the most underrated restaurants in the world by American TV channel CNN.

Owner Jan told Bristol Live: "We are really, really happy. It's lovely that the list is based on customer reviews rather than specific reviewers. It highlights we are there for the right people.

"With restaurants, you can get confused by all the awards - there are so many awards you can end up cooking for the awards not the actual people who are coming in and spending their hard-earned money with you.

"We try to do things the right way. We are not trying to be fashionable, we are just trying to focus on the parts of a restaurant people want."

Paco Tapas is located next to the aforementioned Casamia in Lower Guinea Street and it is run by the same highly-qualified team.

It was awarded a Michelin star at the launch of the 2018 Michelin Guide in London, where judges described its food as "invigorating and bold", adding it was cooked with "understanding and care".
