The two Bristol areas with fewer than ten covid cases

Two areas across Bristol recorded fewer than ten coronavirus cases in recent days, the latest government data shows.

According to the latest figures, there are now five areas in the region with infection rates below 200 per 100,000 - the same as the previous data set.

This comes after after a 37 per cent decline in areas with the lowest rates in the space of two days last week.

The figures, which cover the seven days to January 13, show no neighbourhoods in South Gloucestershire recorded a rate below 200 while, in Bristol, three neighbourhoods did - Westbury-on-Trym (92.2), Henleaze (135.5) and the city centre (168.9).

In comparison, more than a dozen areas in the region were recording such a low number of infections just over a week ago - reflecting the rapid rise in cases.

On Monday, council chiefs activated outbreak plans across north and east Bristol after doing the same action in south Bristol last week.

A total of 2,076 coronavirus infections were recorded in Bristol in the seven days to January 12 and the city's rate (448) has actually gone down by 6.6 per cent in the past seven days after a steep rise over the past month.

Where is the data coming from?

You can see the latest national data on the government's website.

The map displays weekly data, which are updated everyday.

The data can be viewed by local authority but also by smaller sections called 'Middle Super Output Areas'.

The map highlights which areas of the nation have three or more confirmed cases of the virus and colour co-coordinates the areas by how many cases they have.
