The two Ben Chilwell transfer alternatives as Chelsea discover price tag

Leicester City and England full-back Ben Chilwell has been one of the players most heavily linked to Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

Reports suggest that the 23-year-old is one of Frank Lampard’s top targets at the end of the season after impressing for both club and country over the last couple of seasons.

The left-back has played 118 times for the Foxes since breaking into the team during the 2016/17 season.

He earned his first England call-up in September 2018 and has quickly established himself as Gareth Southgate’s first choice left back ahead of next year’s European championships.

Jadon Sancho: From Man City youngster to England flyer via Dortmund

That coupled with Leicester’s current Premier League position and the fact that the player still has four years remaining on his contract means that he won’t come cheap for Frank Lampard.

According to Goal , the Foxes are likely to demand a similar fee to the £80 million they received from Manchester United for Harry Maguire should they consider selling the academy product this summer.

That price could prove to be a stumbling block for Chelsea, especially if they do decide to shell out around up to £120 million for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

Should that be the case, the Blues are said to have two cheaper alternatives to target in the summer.

Porto full-back Alex Telles has impressed in Portugal and has a £36 million release clause in his contract, meaning that he will be under half the price of Chilwell should Chelsea decide to make a move.

Unlike Chilwell, he is unproven in one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Another option for Lampard is said to be Gatafe’s Marc Cucurella who has been in impressive form in La Liga during his loan spell from Barcelona. It is suggested that the full-back would cost in the region of £23 million, due to a buyout clause in his contract at Getafe when he joins on a permanent deal.

The Blues will face competition for his signature with Napoli, Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Leverkusen all also said to be interested.
