The two baby names to avoid if you want to be different

The trend of parents choosing obscure names for their children is growing, but two of the most popular names are actually traditional ones.

Academics call the desire for different names as the 'virtue in rarity' and it has seen less traditional names becoming more and more common, reports the Mirror .

There is a parental desire for their child to stand out and be different and their names are chosen to represent that.

However, the names to avoid if you want your child to stand out are not as obscure as expected.

The two names parents should avoid are Oliver and Olivia, according to Kidspot.

Yes, trusty 'Oliver' has been riding high in the baby name charts for quite some time now, meaning there'll be classrooms over the UK and US with more than one pupil with this name.

In the UK, the name is much more popular, having been comfortably floating around the top 100 since the year 2000.

That's a long old time and a lot of Olivers.

The female version of 'Oliver' is just as popular.

Much like its male counterpart, Olivia has proven to be enduringly popular, having been dwelling at the top of baby name charts for years now.

This year, interestingly, Olivia actually came in as the third most popular on the Nameberry site, with Isla taking second place.

But it's still in the top three, meaning there are still plenty of parents plumping for Olivia.
