The two areas Ben Chilwell must improve on before Chelsea transfer despite wonder goal

Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea transfer target Ben Chilwell still has areas of his game he still needs to improve.

The England international is believed to be Frank Lampard’s main target to fill the left-back slot at Stamford Bridge, with numerous reports linking him with a summer move to London.

The Blues have already set their stall out for a busy summer in the transfer window, having officially announced the signing of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

However, for now, Chilwell remains a Leicester player, and he marked his return to action with a stunning goal for his side in their draw with Watford on Saturday afternoon.

And while Ferdinand was quick to praise the strike, he also believes the game showed areas where Chilwell needs to improve.

“Listen, it is a staggering goal. A phenomenal strike,” the former Manchester United star told BT Sport after the game.

“But I thought for the majority of the game when he got stood up one vs one against Sarr, he was probably on the receiving end a little bit.

“Maybe his footwork needs to improve and body position when one vs one.

“But his intensity and his quality when running forward into the opposition half is up there with the best around at the moment.

“Listen, he is young and he has areas in his game he needs to improve. But let’s eulogise over that goal because it is an unbelievable strike.”
