The Two Amigos set for Trial at Haydock Park

Coral Welsh Grand National runner-up The Two Amigos is set to return to Haydock Park next month.

Nick Martin's nine-year-old was a fine second to favourite Secret Reprieve in the rearranged Chepstow feature on Saturday and is being prepared for a third crack at Haydock’s Grand National Trial on Saturday, February 20.

The Two Amigos felll at the Merseyside track in 2019 after winning the Sky Sports Racing Sussex National Handicap Chase at Plumpton the previous month.

But he improved to be fourth behind Lord Du Mesnil back at Haydock last February after he had also finished fifth in the Welsh National beforehand.

He improved on that effort in Wales at the weekend and Martin reported that the nine-year-old is over his exertions.

Now he is ready to head by to Haydock to try and go a few places better again.

Somerset-based handler Martin said: “He’s absolutely perfect. He’s very chirpy.

“He’s just a complete legend, because he’s so small and he tries so hard.

“He’ll get his big day, one day, hopefully.

“He’ll probably go to the Grand National Trial again, I would imagine. I think it will be a bit like last year with him.”
