The Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers detained on suspicion of drink driving in Malibu

The Tudors star Jonathan Rhys Meyers has been arrested for drink driving after crashing his car in Malibu.

The Dublin-born actor was arrested for misdemeanour DUI and taken into custody following the minor crash, according to reports from the US.

Cops arrived at the scene of the “minor crash” around 5pm local time on Sunday, and the 43 year old Vikings actor was taken into custody after failing a field sobriety test.

Rhys Meyers is alleged to have gone “well past” the legal limit for alcohol, several US media outlets report.

The troubled TV star known as JRM was born in Dublin and lived in Drimnagh before moving to Cork as a child. The popular actor's battle with alcoholism has been well documented.

Two years ago, Jonathan vowed to stay away from drink after he was detained following a booze-fueled row with his wife Mara Lane on an American Airlines flight from Miami to LA.

And just last year he was spotted "drunk and confused" at Dublin Airport, again. The actor has been open about his battles with alcoholism in the past.

Just hours before Sunday’s crash, Lane had posted a video on Instagram of Rhys Meyers talking about their son Wolf and how he had learned to swim.

It’s not believed that the Dracula star was injured in the crash. The Mail Online reports that the star remains in custody in California.
