The truth of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's win percentage as Manchester United manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's win percentage as Manchester United manager stands at 49.18 per cent, far higher than the 27.3 per cent that has recently been claimed on social media.

Following on from United's turgid performance in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday, in which they lost 3-1 to neighbours Man City, several versions of the same tweet went viral claiming that Solskjaer had the unfathomably low win percentage during his time in the Old Trafford hot seat.

The claims, which have been used as evidence for fans who would like Solskjaer to be sacked and as a reason for ridicule by opposition supporters, are completely untrue.

No matter which was you spin the Norwegian's win percentage as United boss, it never gets anywhere near as low as the falsely claimed 27.3 per cent.

Since Solskjaer returned to United to replace Jose Mourinho as caretaker boss and then became the permanent manager, he has resided over 61 games, claiming 30 wins while suffering 17 defeats and 14 draws.

This make his win percentage for his entire reign at the club at 49.18 percent.

His record can be broken down further still, too. Last season he took charge of 29 games, winning 16 of them which gave him a win percentage of 55.17 per cent in total, whereas so far this season his win rate is 46.88 per cent after winning 15 of the 32 games.

Another way in which you can look at Solskjaer's record is before and after he was made the permanent manager.

Solskjaer had an incredible start to life as the boss, which was why he was awarded the job on a permanent basis, after winning 14 of his first 19 games with a percentage of 73.68.

After being given the job full-time his win rate has dropped significantly, down to 40.5 per cent, but that is still far away from the incorrect claims that have spread like wildfire on social media.

That doesn't mean that Solskjaer's current record is good itself, as he currently has the lowest win rate out of United's modern managers, compared with Sir Alex Ferguson (59.67 per cent), Jose Mourinho (58.33 per cent), Louis van Gaal (52.43 per cent) and David Moyes (51.92). But it's not nearly as bad as some are claiming it to be.
