Dylan Farrow has released a statement following the release of the first episode of Allen v Farrow, HBO’s new documentary series about the allegations of sexual abuse faced by Woody Allen, Dylan’s adoptive father.
Dylan has long alleged that her father abused her when she was a child. Allen, who has never been charged in relation to the claims, has repeatedly denied them. He has recently denounced Allen v Farrow, referring to the documentary as a “shoddy hit piece”.
In a message released on Twitter on Monday, Dylan wrote: “Thank you to everyone for their kind words, the outpouring of support means more to me than I can say.
“Speaking the truth is so difficult, but I hope any fellow survivors who watched last night know they are not alone. The truth is something that cannot be changed.”
The first episode of Allen v Farrow aired on Sunday night (21 February) in the US. Three more instalments are planned.
Allen v Farrow includes testimony from Dylan herself, her mother Mia Farrow, her brother Ronan Farrow, and friends of the family. The first episode has been deemed “distressing”, “heartbreaking” and “incredibly painful” by viewers.
The Independent gave the programme a five-star review, calling it “chilling”.
Allen v Farrow will air for three more episodes on Sundays at 9pm ET in the US on HBO and HBO Max.
