The truth behind Manchester United transfer links with Swansea City and Wales sensation

Manchester United have made no contact with the representatives of Swansea City's Daniel James, MEN Sport understands.

Contrary to reports that United were 'frontrunners' to land the £10million-valued winger ahead of Liverpool, it is believed James isn't attracting top six interest as yet and, despite fitting United's profile of transfer target, isn't on United's radar.

The Reds want young homegrown talent to supplement their squad this season and are keen on Crystal Palace's Aaron Wan-Bissaka, West Ham midfielder Declan Rice and Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi.

They've also been linked with fellow Welshman David Brooks, currently plying his trade at Bournemouth.

James, 21, would be viewed as a risky signing for United having never played Premier League football and having only picked up two caps for Wales. He's scored four and laid on seven assists for Swansea this season, impressing United legend and Welsh boss Ryan Giggs.

"He's a talent," Giggs said of James in March.

"When you've got that raw pace, you're a threat at any level so as a winger, obviously for me playing as a winger, when I was younger, you then have to develop the other parts of your game which I feel he is doing.

"He's played up front as well which will help him because that gives you an appreciation of what you need to do."
