The truth behind Felipe Caicedo's 'Marcelo Bielsa' tweet

Leeds United fans might have got their hopes up for a Coppa Italia-winning striker to make the move to Elland Road, but their target's Twitter post was ultimately revealed to be a false alarm.

Marcelo Bielsa's side look to have conducted the majority of their transfer plans for the summer with just under a fortnight left to snap up any remaining purchases before the window shuts.

With Kemar Roofe set to miss the first few weeks and Patrick Bamford out of sorts in front of goal, some quarters have mulled over whether the Whites have enough firepower in their arsenal to replicate last year's achievements.

Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo was one name briefly linked with a switch to West Yorkshire last summer and the 30-year-old set tongues momentarily wagging on Sunday.

The 30-year-old, without any real context, tweeted "El locooo" on Sunday evening, invoking the nickname of the 64-year-old Bielsa.

Research however has indicated Caicedo's social media missive was not in praise of the Argentine, but instead a celebration of forward Jonathan Alvez finding the net for Barcelona Sporting Club in the Ecuadorian Serie A.

The veteran striker, also nicknamed El Loco, found the net against Independiente del Valle on Sunday, assisted by Fidel Martinez, the latter of whom was subsequently referenced by Caicdeo in a second tweet that mentioned the 29-year-old by name.

Leeds kick off their new Championship season with a trip to Bristol City this Sunday, before returning to Elland Road on August 10 to face Nottingham Forest.
