Britney Spears caused headlines a couple of days ago when she announced she’d adopted a baby girl on social media.
Alongside a video of her dancing in a pink leotard, mum-of-two Spears claimed she’d adopted a child called Lennon London Spears.
“I need coffee and I want to let you guys know I adopted a beautiful baby girl!!!” she wrote in the caption. “Her name is Lennon London Spears!!!"
But several outlets are now reporting Spears has not expanded her family.
Spears is known for sometimes fooling her followers on social media, and it’s clear she might have been joking in the post, as the caption was full of laughing and winking emojis.
TMZ, Billboard, E! News and Rolling Stone are outlets who have said Spears hasn’t welcomed a new child.
Sources with direct knowledge told TMZ she didnt adopt a child and she's just messing with people, hence the emojis in her caption.
The Standard have contacted a representative of Britney Spears for comment.
Fans had also speculated Spears might have added a new pet to her family, but TMZ has said she hasn’t done that either, and that she also isn’t moving to Italy, as she said in the post.
Spears shares two children with her ex-husband Kevin Federline – Jayden, 18, and Sean, 19.
Last month, the popstar revealed she has been building bridges with Jayden after being estranged for several years.
She shared a video showing the 18-year-old driving a convertible through the countryside.
In the accompanying caption, she offered an update on his life, and how they have been working on healing their relationship.
“He is 6’3 and his hands are so big now !!! How long am I going to be in shock ??? It’s so incredibly crazy, it’s not even funny !!! I’m blessed !!! Just please be careful with my heart too !!!” she wrote.
The boys were largely raised by Federline and moved with him to Hawaii in 2023.
Spears and Jayden first reconciled in November 2024, with a source telling Page Six: “Britney is thrilled to have her baby back”. Another source said: “Everything is moving in the right direction.”
Spears enjoyed an emotional reunion with them last Christmas after revealing she hadn’t seen them in two years.
“Tears of joy and literally in shock everyday… koo koo crazy so in love and blessed!!!” she said at the time.
