Runarsson flops in City hammering
Arsenal bowed out of the Carabao Cup last night, being beaten 4-1 by Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.
After suffering a fourth Premier League defeat in their last five matches on Saturday, losing 2-1 to Everton, several Gunners supporters were hopeful that a change in competition could have acted as a new dawn.
However, the Gunners' current woes worsened, with goals from Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte putting Mikel Arteta's side to the sword.
Arteta rang the changes for the visit of the reigning Carabao Cup holders, but some of his decisions proved more costly than others, although Gabriel Martinelli delivered a performance not short on encouragement.
Arsenal held Szoboszlai doubts
Arsenal technical director Edu decided against a move for highly-rated Hungarian star Dominik Szoboszlai because he was unsure whether or not the youngster would be an instant hit at the Emirates Stadium.
According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, as cited by the Daily Express, Arsenal were big admirers of the attacking-midfielder but did not want to run the risk of signing him in case he may have required too much time to settle into life in England.
Last week, it was confirmed that Szoboszlai will join German club RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg when the January transfer window opens for business in less than two weeks time.
After not getting a deal over the line for the Hungarian, Edu is poised to accelerate plans to get two new faces through the door once the window opens for business.
Gunners handed double transfer boost
With Edu said to be keen on getting two deals done early on in the window, the Gunners could be alerted to the availability of Real Madrid duo Rodrygo and Carlos Vinicius.
According to reports in Spain, the duo could be allowed to leave on loan in January, putting a whole host of European clubs on red alert.
Though Rodrygo remains part of Zinedine Zidane's long-term plans, Arsenal could be attracted to signing the Brazilian on loan, as well as Vinicius, with both players having been linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium in the past.
