Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is still hopeful of agreeing at least one deal before Friday's January transfer deadline passes.
Mourinho inherited a squad low on confidence when he joined in November following Mauricio Pochettino's sacking.
But despite an initial upturn in results, the performances have been inconsistent of late, and many Spurs fans will have been hoping the Portuguese would go into the transfer market for a player or two.
But while Spurs may not be able to do any business in terms of new players before Friday, they have tied one star down to a more permanent deal.
Giovani Lo Celso joined the club on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season.
That option to buy was set to become an obligation to buy if Spurs finish in the Champions League places, but Tottenham have secured the Argentinian's services on a permanent basis before the summer.
Spurs have triggered the permanent move of Lo Celso, after a number of positive displays following Mourinho's arrival, and vice-chairman Jose Catalan revealed earlier in January that the club had a number of options available in regards to Lo Celso.
Spurs have moved decisively to snap up the midfielder, and the move has saved them £6.8million that can potentially be used elsewhere in the transfer market.
"The purchase option [for Lo Celso] can be exercised by this January market," Catalan told ABC de Sevilla.
"They would have to pay €32million (£27million).
"In June [a €40m (£33.8m) permanent deal] is mandatory if they get into the Champions League, and voluntary if not.
"They will have to make the decision whether they buy or not."
That means Spurs have saved £6.8million at the current exchange rate after deciding to make the deal permanent this month, rather than waiting until the summer transfer window.
