The truth about Nottingham Forest and transfer links with Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom

Nottingham Forest are not interested in signing Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom.

The Reds were today linked with a move for the front man, who has endured a difficult season with Middlesbrough after a £2.5m move a year ago.

He scored just five goals in 38 games following his arrival from PAOK and has struggled to hold down a place in the starting line-up.

The Northern Echo suggested Forest may be keen, news which was not well received by Reds fans, with Boro boss Neil Warnock keen to reshape his front line following the departures of Britt Assombalonga and Ashley Fletcher.

However, Nottinghamshire Live understands there is no interest in the former Arsenal youngster.

Akpom is no stranger to Forest having spent time on loan at the City Ground back in 2015 when he arrived from the Gunners but failed to score in seven appearances.

Reds boss Chris Hughton also knows the striker well having signed him during his time in charge of Brighton but he failed to score in 10 appearances.

Hughton has already said that revamping his forward line will be the priority once the window reopens after seeing Lyle Taylor, Lewis Grabban and Glenn Murray all fail to hit double figures.

Only Derby County scored fewer goals than the Reds who are desperate to improve their attacking threat next season as they target a promotion push to the Premier League.

Taylor and Grabban are still under contract at the City Ground,. and Murray looks likely to leave as his short-term deal has expired following his arrival on a free transfer from Brighton in January.
