The truth about Build-A-Bear 'pay your age event' rumours

Build-A-Bear has responded to rumours it was preparing for another 'pay your age' day, and confirmed exactly how parents can get their hands on a discounted teddy.

Last July the store at the Victoria Centre was among branches across the country that took part in the hugely-popular event, where children could buy a teddy bear for much less than the usual price.

The promotion saw seven-hour queues at the shopping centre, with hundreds of eager customers turning up.

Similar scenes were seen at the stores in Leicester and Derby, and long queues were in place in other stores across the county.

Yesterday it was widely reported that the one-off deal was returning later this year, however Build-A-Bear has now confirmed this is not the case.

What the firm says

Last year's 'pay your age event' marked the beginning of the company's 'Count Your Candles' promotion, in which youngsters can buy a bear in their birthday month for a price determined by their age.

While the one-off launch event is not returning, a Build-A-Bear spokeswoman told NottinghamshireLive this ongoing offer was still in place.

She said: "Our year-round Count Your Candles birthday program — which launched on our Pay Your Age Day in July 2018 — allows Build-A-Bear Bonus Club members to bring their child in to the Workshop during the month of their birthday to make their own Birthday Treat Bear for the price of the age they are turning.

"Every birthday celebration at Build-A-Bear Workshop includes a birthday Heart Ceremony, photo prop, birthday sticker, party hat and more."

To take advantage of the deal you will need to be pre-registered with the company's Bonus Club in advance.
