The true extent of West Ham's dreadful injury record in 2018/19 revealed

West Ham lost the third most days to injury to their players in the enitre Premier League during the 2018/19 campaign as Manuel Pellegrini was hit by some key withdrawals.

While the Hammers were relatively low on the list of total injuries picked up throughout the season, only Manchester United and Arsenal lost their players for more total days throughout the campaign.

Manuel Pellegrini often bemoaned the number of serious injuries his players picked up over the course of the season and, in the cast of Manuel Lanzini, before the season even started.

For one game last season, the home draw against Liverpool at London Stadium, Pellegrini was without 11 first team players through injury and over Christmas was forced to play Michail Antonio as an emergency right back. Robert Snodgrass spent most of the season in central midfield as well due to a lack of personnel.

Overall, the Hammers picked up 27 separate injuries over the course of the season which puts them at the lower end of the table as only Burnley, Brighton, Fulham Leicester and Wolves picked up less.

But, such was the severity of most of the Hammers injuries that they lost 1,237 days to those injuries, with United (1,392) and Arsenal (1,316) the only two teams worse affected.

For the Hammers, three of their summer signings were ruled out for the large majority of the season thanks to long term injuries. Andriy Yarmlenko didn't feature at all after October having ruptured his achilles, Jack Wilshere made just one first team appearance between September and April and Carlos Sanchez didn't feature between September and May.

Winston Reid didn't feature at all in the 2018/19 campaign as a result of aggravating an existing knee problem in pre-season training and Andy Carroll missed 24 of 38 games this season with two separate ankle issues.
