The trash talk Sean Payton texted Tom Brady after NFL schedule release

Tom Brady’s transition to any other team in the league was never going to be easy after spending his entire career in coach Bill Belichick’s system, and while the Buccaneers had an excellent draft and also landed the returning Rob Gronkowski, Tampa Bay will be put to the test immediately against the favorite to win the NFC South.

In Week 1 on September 13th, the Bucs will travel to New Orleans to play the Saints in the Superdome – and Saints coach Sean Payton reached out to Brady when the matchup was set.

In a conversation with NFL Network’s Kay Adams, Payton said he sent some mild trash talk to the six-time Super Bowl champion following the schedule reveal.

Payton: Well … I’ve got it on speed dial. Yeah, Tampa Week 1, though. We want to quiet the cannons. That’s what I text Tom. I said ‘Hashtag keep the cannons quiet.’ We’ve known each other for years.

Adams: What does he write back to that when you send him that?

Payton: Oh, he laughs. He says ‘You guys are the favorites. We’re the underdogs.’ Blah blah blah.
