The transfer window change that is set to impact Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest could be given an extra month to do their summer transfer business with Championship sides set to debate whether to push the day the transfer window closes back to September 1.

Premier League sides decided yesterday to move the date the transfer window closes back to its original end of August/early September slot.

The transfer window for the past two seasons has closed on the Thursday before the opening games of the Premier League and Championship seasons.

Clubs voted for the change so as to ensure squads were settled for the season and no moves were made after the opening weekend.

However, with the rest of Europe sticking to the original dates that left top and second tier clubs open to players departing with no chance to bring in replacements.

Clubs in League One and Two already have the longer window, but second tier sides must decide at an EFL meeting at the end of the month whether to come into line with the Premier League.

It would appear highly likely that they would do so, to avoid being out of step with everyone else.

A statement from the EFL read: "The EFL notes the decision taken by Premier League clubs to change the closure date for its summer transfer window.

"EFL clubs discuss the matter on an annual basis and will do so at a meeting later this month where a determination will be made as to whether there is to be any change moving forwards."

Forest, under new boss Sabri Lamouchi, underwent a summer of major surgery and used the summer transfer window to its full potential.
