The transfer that will prove key to Lucas Torreira's Atletico Madrid move

Lucas Torreira has 'agreed personal terms' with Atletico Madrid.

That's according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who claims the Uruguayan has already agreed to make the move to the Spanish capital.

But Atletico Madrid and Arsenal are yet to agree a deal.

According to Romano, and indeed reports in Spain, claim Atletico must offload midfielder Hector Herrera before they can complete a move for Torreira.

What to expect from Arsenal in the transfer window

Romano's tweet read: "Lucas Torreira has agreed personal terms with Atlético Madrid. He’s keen to join but agreement with Arsenal has not been reached yet: Atléti need to sell Hector Herrera to sign Torreira."

Torreira is expected to leave Arsenal this summer with the Gunners expected to sign a midfielder before the window closes, Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar targeted.

A number of Italian clubs were linked with a move for Torreira with Sampdoria and Torino both reportedly keeping tabs.

But it now seems as though Atletico could be his next club, as long as they can offload Herrera.

Torreira has been with Arsenal since 2018 when he joined from Sampdoria for around £26million.

The 23-time Uruguay international still has three years remaining on his current deal.
