The transfer decision Nottingham Forest have already made ahead of January window

Nottingham Forest have no plans to recall any of their players out on loan when the transfer window opens later this week.

Midfielder Harry Arter, striker Nuno Da Costa and left-back Nicholas Ioannou joined Charlton Athletic, Caen and Como 1907 respectively on season-long moves back in the summer.

Da Costa recently admitted he would welcome being given another chance at the City Ground following the change in manager, saying Steve Cooper’s “philosophy” fitted with his own style.

The 30-year-old has played eight times and scored three goals for his French team, having been hampered by injury soon after he made the switch.

Meanwhile, Ioannou has featured 15 times in Italy and Arter has made six appearances for the Addicks - the last of which came at the end of November.

The centre of the pitch is one area where the Reds do have plenty of options, but they are expected to look to strengthen at full-back and up front in January.

Cooper, though, says that will not involve bringing back any of their own players from elsewhere.

Asked if he would consider recalling any of Forest’s loanees, he told NottinghamshireLive: “No, not at the moment - there’s nothing in terms of that.

“Could that change? Possibly, if Covid really kicks in and stuff like that.

“But it’s not something we’re really planning at the moment.”

The Reds are currently light at left-back, in particular, while Max Lowe and Jordi Osei-Tutu are sidelined with injury. Jack Colback has filled in there, while Gaetan Bong has been on the bench.

The club also have youngsters Jayden Richardson and George Shelvey currently plying their trade elsewhere.

The latter is on loan at Mansfield Town for the season, while Richardson recently joined Notts County on an initial one-month deal.
