Grab a cup of tea, a slice of homemade cake and schedule your next book club meeting because the trailer for Netflix‘s adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club just dropped.
The highly anticipated film is based on a novel by British author and television presenter Richard Osman. It was released in 2020 and quickly became a best-selling hit. The story follows an unlikely bunch of golden-agers living in an idyllic retirement village who have a penchant for solving cold cases for fun.
However, one day, the group find themselves wrapped up at the centre of a very real murder mystery that puts their comfortable lives in jeopardy. And boy, does it make for a compelling journey.

The book itself is a very cosy crime comedy that delighted audiences of all ages with its unique premise, amusingly realistic dialogue between the elderly characters and surprisingly poignant moments.
Now, thanks to the fanfare surrounding the novel, it’s been adapted into a Netflix film with an incredible cast. And let me tell you, I am over the fucking moon. So, here’s everything we know so far about The Thursday Murder Club film.
Is there a trailer for the Thursday Murder Club?
Yes, there is! And let me tell you, my book club group chat is popping the FUCK OFF over this.
Who has been cast in the Thursday Murder Club?
It’s been a great year for spot-on casting in adaptations of beloved books (I mean, Kieran Culkin as Ceaser Flickerman in Sunrise On The Reaping? Absolute perfection!), but I dare say that The Thursday Murder Club takes the cake as the best one yet.
The one and only Helen Mirren has been cast as Elizabeth Best, a retired British spy who is incredibly put together and juuuust as mysterious as you’d expect her to be. The sweet pea of the group, a bubbly retired nurse and baking enthusiast named Joyce Meadowcroft, will be played by Celia Imrie.

Pierce Brosnan has been cast as Ron Ritchie, a large and not-quite-in-charge retired union leader. Meanwhile, soft-spoken former psychiatrist Ibrahim Arif will be played by Sir Ben Kingsley.

The primary cast will be joined by Naomi Ackie, Daniel Mays, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, David Tennant, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell, Richard E. Grant and Ingrid Oliver.
See? I wasn’t lying about the brilliant cast!
The film is directed by Chris Columbus, who has also directed little old films such as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire.

When is the Thursday Murder Club being released?
The Thursday Murder Club is scheduled to be released on Netflix on August 28.
I am counting down the bloody days.
