The tragic reason why Vinnie Jones wasn't on The X Factor: Celebrity on Saturday

He was one of the first names to see his name linked with the show so viewers were shocked when Vinnie Jones didn't appear on the first episode of The X Factor: Celebrity on Saturday night.

While the 'normal' version has been shelved for a year, the hit ITV show is back on our screens with The X Factor Celebrity which started this weekend and unites a very random mix of famous faces.

includes everyone from Ricki Lake to Martin Bashir and Jeremy Edwards to rugby players Try Star .

And while we got a glimpse of all of them we didn't see Vinnie, with a tragic reason behind his absence.

Doubt was cast on Vinnie's appearance on the show after the tragic death of his wife Tanya in July, just days before filming was due to commence in America.

After being given time to process the events by producers, Vinnie decided to take part and should be on screen as the show continues over the coming weeks.

Former Wimbledon football hardman Vinnie isn't actually a stranger to singing.

In 2002, he appeared on Top of The Pops, performing Big Bad Leroy Brown originally by Jim Croce.
