The towering new city centre apartment block in the pipeline for Cardiff

A 16-storey tower of 150 apartments is being planned in Cardiff city centre.

A developer is planning the tower block on the existing Landore Court in Charles Street.

Plans had previously been revealed for a 25-storey high rise tower of 270 apartments on the site.

But it now appears the original plans have been scaled down in the latest application to Cardiff council.

The plans would see the existing 1990s built Landore Court - a detached block of four self contained office properties - demolished.

The earlier plans for the project were drawn up by property development firm Garrison Barclay Estates, the previous owner of Landore Court.

GBE has since sold the 22,000 sq ft building for £5million to BP's Ropemaker pension fund - which would be bankrolling the project. Bristol-based Crossmark Developments would deliver the new building.

In June an application was received by Cardiff council to 'screen opinion' over whether the proposed 16-storey tower would need an environmental impact assessment.

Cardiff council has decided not tp request an environmental assessment, according to the council's planning portal.

A formal planning application is expected to be made with Cardiff council.
