The Tourist: The locations where BBC's newest crime thriller was filmed

New BBC drama The Tourist has caused quite a stir since it premiered on New Year's Day.

Over the course of six episodes, audiences has followed Jamie Dornan's character 'The Man' as he's raced about the Outback trying to find out the secrets of his life before a memory-wiping car crash.

Set deep in the most deserted parts of the Outback, the show has gifted us with some unique perspectives of rural Australia.

Where was The Tourist shot?

The Tourist filmed over 17-weeks in the region of South Australia .

Shooting primarily took place both in Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia.

Filming also took place in regional towns in the area such as Port Augusta and Peterborough .

The cast was spotted filming there in 2021, and Steven Marshall MP, Premier of South Australia, called it ‘the biggest TV production the area had ever seen."

The Metro states that the petrol station at the beginning of the show, where Dornan's character fills up his car, is located at Flinders Ranges . The gas station was purpose built for the show itself. Flinders Ranges is home to the largest mountain range in South Australia.

Aside from that, most of the filming took place in the city of Adelaide , including scenes at the Frewville Motor Inn, which, in real-life, is a motel in the small suburb of the city.

Filming also took place in Port Augusta , a smaller city in South Australia, and in Peterborough , a sparsely populated town just north of Adelaide.
