The touching gesture Swansea City have just made after Middlesbrough fixture is postponed due to coronavirus outbreak

Swansea City's Championship clash with Middlesbrough has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The news emerged on Friday morning after EFL chiefs held an emergency meeting to discuss what should happen to the fixture schedule amid the pandemic.

Swansea's players were training at the Liberty Stadium when the news broke.

And it meant they did not need to make the long trip to the north east of England to face Jonathan Woodgate's side.

The players and coaching staff had been due to fly from Cardiff to Teesside on Friday afternoon ahead of the Saturday fixture at the Riverside Stadium.

But once it emerged that the EFL had been suspended until April 3, players completed their session and were sent home.

The club's head chef Chris Watkins had already prepared 35 meals for players and staff.

And rather than seeing the food go to waste, Swansea contacted City Church who will distribute the meals to the city's homeless.

In addition to the fixture with Middlesbrough, Swansea's Championship games against Luton and Millwall have also been postponed.
