The Tottenham youngster training with Jose Mourinho's first team ahead of Watford clash

Gedson Fernandes has been getting to know his Spurs teammates at Hotspur Way after training with the rest of the first team ahead of Saturday's trip to Watford.

The midfielder finally completed his move to the club from Benfica on Wednesday morning as he signed an 18-month loan deal that the Lilywhites can make permanent if he shines during his time in N17.

Midfield has been a real problem position for Jose Mourinho since his arrival at the club and the addition of the 21-year-old boosts the numbers with Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele currently injured.

Having posted a number of pictures of the player posing in a Tottenham shirt on Wednesday after signing on the dotted line, the club uploaded more pictures of the new man as he was put through his paces on the training pitch alongside his teammates.

While the main focus was of course on the Portuguese player, some eagle-eyed fans actually spotted another one of the club's academy players in training next to Fernandes.

It was indeed centre-back Malachi Walcott joining the first team for the session as he trained alongside the likes of fellow youngsters Japhet Tanganga, Dennis Cirkin and Oliver Skipp.

The 17-year-old has featured for the U23 side in Premier League 2 a number of times so far this campaign, with his last appearance coming on Monday in the 2-2 draw away at Derby County.

Walcott has also played in the UEFA Youth League this season, starting in four of his five appearances for the Lilywhites.

With Cirkin training with the first team squad in recent weeks and named on the bench for Tuesday's win over Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, fellow youngster Walcott has clearly done something to catch the head coach's eye.

As Mourinho has given chances to Tanganga and Cirkin in the matchday squad since taking on the job in November, Walcott will be hoping he is the next to follow in their footsteps.

His participation in training shows that he's heading in the right direction as he bids to become a first-team regular in north London.
