The Tottenham wonderkid who could benefit against Man City after Premier League announcement

Nuno Espirito Santo has plenty of players to choose from when it comes to naming his squad for Sunday's Premier League encounter against Man City.

As was the case last season with Spurs' summer business giving Jose Mourinho options galore, his replacement has exactly the same dilemma on his hands following three new arrivals and a handful of exits.

New signing Pierluigi Gollini looks a certainty to be included this weekend for the Man City game but it's still unclear whether fellow summer additions Cristian Romero and Bryan Gil will be selected.

The defender is currently recovering from a knee injury picked up in the Copa America but Espirito Santo stated on Sunday that the issue is "much better" at present, with Gil only just linking up with his new teammates at Hotspur Way after representing Spain in the Olympics.

Harry Kane could find himself back in the Tottenham squad at the weekend once he rejoins full training after a period of isolation following his summer break, while players such as Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon have not featured in pre-season at all and should come into contention again once available.

Naming a 25-man squad for Sunday's game against Arsenal as youngsters such as Tobi Omole and Jack Clarke were included, the head coach really is going to be spoilt for choice once Spurs have finalised their transfer business.

Well, the good news for Espirito Santo and his fellow 19 Premier League managers is that they will once again be able to name nine substitutes on the bench this season, as confirmed in the Premier League handbook.

A statement reads: "Subject to Rule L.28A, in any league match a club may include in its teamsheet up to nine substitute players of whom not more than three may take part in the league match subject to the conditions set out in Law 3 of the Laws of the Game."

Previously only able to name seven substitutes on the bench until the rules were changed during the 2019/20 season due to the coronavirus pandemic, Premier League clubs will once again carry on with 20-man squads this campaign following the decision not to revert back to the pre-Covid rules.

One player who could benefit from the rule is Dane Scarlett.

Making his first-team debut under Mourinho last season in both the Premier League and Europa League, the 17-year-old is expected to get more game time this term.

A regular in pre-season for the Lilywhites, most notably netting a goal in the 1-1 draw at Leyton Orient, Scarlett has a very good chance of making the matchday squad against Man City regardless of whether Kane is involved or not.

On the bench four times in the Premier League in 2020/21, that number should grow considerably over the coming months and the highly-rated youngster will hopefully add to his solitary Premier League appearance so far.

Had the Premier League reverted back to their previous seven substitutes then his chances of making the bench may have been limited, especially if Spurs manage to bring in another frontman amid talk of Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez making the switch to N17.

However, the fact it is nine substitutes again means Tottenham fans have a very good chance of seeing Scarlett regularly involved in Espirito Santo's plans between now and May.

Already with three senior appearances under his belt for Spurs, the next target for the Hillingdon-born player will be to get his first senior goal for the club.

The winning goal off the bench against Man City on Sunday would do just nicely.
