The Tottenham transfer that would show 'real intent' to the rest of the Premier League

Philippe Coutinho would be a "perfect replacement" for Christian Eriksen at Tottenham.

That's the verdict of former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison, who has been speaking about the future of the Barcelona star amid links with a return to the Premier League and reported interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.

And Morrison, who is a Tottenham fan, says he would love to see the former Liverpool man join the Lilywhites before the transfer deadline, which is at 5pm tomorrow (Thursday).

“I would love him at Tottenham. He is a fantastic player, and I think it would be a great move for Tottenham, if they do lose Christian Eriksen," he told Talksport.

“If he [Eriksen] goes, he [Coutinho] would be the perfect fit to replace him. He is a tremendous player, a creative player in that number ten role that Eriksen plays.

“I think he is better than [Christian] Eriksen, one-on-one, and I think he will score more goals than Eriksen. I think Eriksen is probably better with a dead ball at set pieces."

Meanwhile, Morrison believes that a return to England would be the best move for Coutinho this summer, despite reports that the Brazilian is ready to stay in Spain and fight for his place.

However, he reckons a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would send a powerful message to the rest of the Premier League.

“People are saying he wants to stay at Barcelona," he said.

"They want to sign Neymar, they have already got [Antoine] Griezmann and [Luis] Suarez and [Lionel] Messi. He is the best player in the world and [Philippe] Coutinho can’t go and express his way of playing, because every time you get the ball, you have to try and give it to Messi for him to go and do the business.

“I think he [Coutinho] needs to come back to the Premier League. I have said before that I thought Liverpool would come back in for him, but I think it would be a great bit of business for Tottenham if Pochettino could get him, and it would show real intent to the league.

“He has got a lot to offer."
