The Tottenham summer transfer targets to save Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy millions

Jose Mourinho will be hoping he is busy in the transfer market once again in the summer as he looks to stamp his mark on his Tottenham team.

Although no new striker arrived last month following Harry Kane's hamstring injury, the Spurs head coach did manage to bring Gedson Fernandes and Steven Bergwijn to the club.

The latter made an immediate impact on his debut on Sunday evening against Man City and Mourinho will have his fingers crossed that the duo can make a big impression in N17 between now and the end of the season.

While everyone would like the club to splash the cash ahead of the next season as they look to climb the Premier League table and challenge in Europe, the club could save a bit of money by buying from the teams who are relegated to the Championship.

It's incredibly tight at the bottom of the table at present as Brighton, Bournemouth, Aston Villa, West Ham, Watford and Norwich City are all fighting to stay up.

So who are the players in the summer who might be available on cheaper deals?

Max Aarons

The Lilywhites have been heavily linked with the player in the past and they may well make their move in the summer.

Serge Aurier has nailed down his place in Mourinho's starting XI but it's not exactly clear if he still wants to remain in north London beyond the end of the current season having wanted to leave last summer.

Aarons has an incredibly bright future in the game and he could be Spurs' right-back for years to come if he moves from Carrow Road.

Nathan Ake

Bournemouth have managed to move out of the bottom three in recent weeks after stringing a couple of wins together.

Ake has been a key player for the Cherries since his move from Chelsea and he will no doubt be a man in demand if Eddie Howe's team do indeed drop.

Capable of playing at centre-back and left-back, he could be the long-term replacement for Jan Vertonghen who turns 33 in April.

Jack Grealish

Grealish's name will definitely crop up regardless of whether or not Villa make an immediate return to the Championship.

Heavily tipped to join the Lilywhites before the start of the 2018/19 season, the attacking midfielder has been a shining light for his side this term.

Spurs are well stocked in attacking positions at present but the 24-year-old would add something different to Mourinho's team.

Tyrone Mings

Struggling to get minutes at Bournemouth last season, Mings joined Aston Villa on loan last January and took his game to another level.

He has been outstanding in his time at Villa Park and he is now a regular in Gareth Southgate's England squad.

Capable of playing at centre-back and left-back just like Ake, the 26-year-old would be a great option at the back for Spurs to provide competition for the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Vertonghen.

Issa Diop

One West Ham player that the club could make a move for is Diop.

The Frenchman has been very good in his time in east London and it comes as no surprise to see the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United linked with him.

The powerful defender would be a very good fit at Spurs and he will be one who is on the move if the Hammers drop.

Declan Rice

One area that has proved an issue for Mourinho so far is holding midfield.

Eric Dier was immediately restored to the middle of the park following the head coach's appointment but we have seen very little of him there over the past two months.

Rice could be the man to come in and make that position his own, while the fact he is a homegrown player would also help Spurs out when it comes to naming a Champions League squad.

Callum Wilson

Spurs definitely need to bring in a new frontman in the summer after missing out on one last month.

Supporters would love a world class striker to seal a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but some may have reservations given they will be playing second fiddle to Kane.

Wilson would more than likely jump at the chance to play for Spurs if Bournemouth drop and he has plenty of experience of finding the net in the Premier League.

Like Ake, he'll be one of the players the Cherries will cash in on if their stay in the top flight comes to an end in May.

Abdoulaye Doucoure

Tottenham are well stocked in midfield at present following the arrival of Gedson from Benfica on an 18-month loan deal.

However, Mourinho could decide to strengthen even further as it has been a bit of a problem position for him ever since taking on the job.

Doucoure is extremely highly rated and it's hard to see Watford keeping hold of him if they do go down.

Earning rave reviews over the past couple of seasons, the Frenchman would definitely strengthen in the middle for the Lilywhites.

Todd Cantwell

Cantwell has made the step up from the Championship to the Premier League look rather easy this season.

The attacking midfielder has six goals and two assists to his name in the league so far and those figures will continue to grow between now and May.

He would be a cheaper alternative to Grealish before the summer transfer deadline, although Norwich will be looking to get the best price possible for one of their star players.
