The Tottenham scouting mission that spells good news for Mauricio Pochettino

Spurs chief scout Steve Hitchen is said to have been sent to Argentina on his latest mission, in what is reportedly a sign that the club are still backing manager Mauricio Pochettino.

According to the Daily Mail, Hitchen's recent trip to South America is seen by many at the club as evidence that the club do not believe that an exit for Pochettino is likely for some time.

The 47-year-old has been under increased pressure and scrutiny in the past year, despite an incredible run to the Champions League final last season.

But a lack of an away win since January and a disappointing start to the season is causing some concern among fans.

Mauricio Pochettino's first Premier League press conference

Pochettino has been linked with a move away for some time, with Real Madrid and Manchester United known to be keen on him.

The Spurs boss has said himself in recent months that he would like to take over at the Spanish giants some day, but Spurs apparently feel that a move to La Liga for the coach would be some way off.

Pochettino's position is said to be secure, and the scouting mission to his homeland for players is felt by some to be backing for the manager's methods.

Erik Lamela, Paulo Gazzaniga, Juan Foyth and summer signing Giovani Lo Celso make up the largest proportion of players from a single country in the dressing room, barring the club's English stars.
