The Tottenham players who are set to leave for free this summer and who could depart in 2021

It could be a very busy summer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Jose Mourinho looks to stamp his mark on the team.

Having signed Gedson Fernandes and Steven Bergwijn last month despite initially stating that he would not be looking to bring players in, the head coach will no doubt already have a few targets in mind as he looks to build a team capable of winning silverware on a consistent basis.

That means we could also see some players moving on as part of his Tottenham rebuild.

Well, a couple at the club will be able to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season due to the fact that they will be out of contract.

Jose Mourinho full press conference after Southampton win

Here we take a look at who is on course to leave at present and who could potentially depart in 2021.

Jan Vertonghen

The Lilywhites have a decision to make regarding the experienced defender over the coming months.

Vertonghen, who has been with the club since 2012 after joining from Ajax, has been far from his best this season and that has meant he has spent a lot of time in and out of the side.

It's clear to see that he just isn't going to feature week in, week out under Mourinho and the fact he turns 33 in April may work against him as the boss looks to build a Tottenham team for the future.

The player's agent has claimed that there is a lot of interest in his client and he can now speak to foreign clubs about a pre-contract agreement for next season.

Michel Vorm

The Dutchman actually left the club at the end of last season after his contract expired.

However, he was back at Spurs by October after Mauricio Pochettino made a move for him in wake of the nasty elbow injury Hugo Lloris sustained at Brighton.

Vorm has yet to make an appearance for the club since his return and it will more than likely stay that way as Paulo Gazzaniga has dropped back down to the bench since the Frenchman made his return in January.

The 36-year-old will once again be free to leave in the summer and it's hard to see the club extending his deal as one of Alfie Whiteman or Brandon Austin can step up to third choice.

What about next summer?

Spurs, as it stands, will go into the 2020/21 season with a handful of players in the final 12 months of their contracts.

Eric Dier is one of those who will be able to leave on a free transfer in 2021 if his situation doesn't change, with Victor Wanyama and Oliver Skipp also in the same boat.

Danny Rose's contract also runs out at the end of next season, although he may be one to move on in the summer after joining Newcastle United on loan last month.

Gedson's 18-month loan from Benfica also comes to an end at the same time and that means Mourinho and the club will have a decision to make unless they have come to one prior to that.
