The Tottenham player who will be a 'new signing' for Mauricio Pochettino next season

The Tottenham team will return to Hotspur Way for pre-season training next week as preparations for the 2019/20 campaign get underway.

A handful of players will be absent, however, with the Copa America and Africa Cup of Nations taking place over the course of the summer.

Victor Wanyama is one player who won't be there for the beginning of pre-season training after representing Kenya in the tournament out in Egypt.

The midfielder was once again hit by injury last campaign but he did feature quite regularly in the closing weeks of the season.

Although Spurs have already strengthened for next campaign with the big-money signing of Tanguy Ndombele, former player Pascal Chimbonda believes that Wanyama will be a "vital player" under Pochettino next season despite his injury troubles over the past two years.

"Wanyama will be like a new signing for Tottenham next season," the former French international told Sportingbet. "He managed to stay injury free towards the end of the season and played some much needed first team football.

"He was a little rusty, but he can now kick on and start the season fresh.

"It’s important that he doesn’t push himself too hard as he needs to stay fit for the whole season to really get back on track.

"If he can do that, then he could be a vital player next season."

Another player that has been linked with a move away from the club this summer is Kieran Trippier.

Amid talk that he could head to Italy to either Juventus or Napoli, Chimbonda believes he will still be at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond the transfer deadline.

"Tripper won’t be sold this window and will remain Tottenham’s first choice right back," he added. "He clearly struggled last season, but he will be a completely new player now he’s had a summer to rest without any international tournaments.

"With Aurier being injured throughout the season, it didn’t give Tripper a chance to rest when he needed it most.

"He’s proven he can play at the top level and you don’t lose that overnight.

"I expect we’ll see Tripper back to his best next season."
