Jamie Redknapp says Son Heung Min should have known he was offside when he scored a disallowed goal against West Ham.
The Tottenham Hotspur attacker looked like he had given his side the lead in the first London derby of the Premier League restart when he fired in a Giovani Lo Celso pass shortly before half-time.
Yet, after a check with VAR, it was given as offside.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp said Son should have done more, and that it was exactly the case VAR was brought in to solve.
He said: "It was just offside.
"Lo Celso injected a bit of pace into the game, which is what it needed because they'd been too slow and taking too many touches.
"He worked his magic, got the ball out to Son and it was a brilliant finish but it was just offside.
"VAR drives a lot of people mad, people want to see more goals, but this is why it's been brought into play.
"It's the right decision, absolutely - I think about a couple there's been, like Firmino against Aston Villa and Pukki against Spurs, where it's been a shoulder or something like that is offside.
"That drives me crazy but the facts are he's got to get himself onside and it's a goal.
"He doesn't work hard enough to get back, he can see along the line there, he's got a great view.
"When you're a player, you're very aware of lines on the pitch and he can see the 18-yard line there, he can look across the line with a perfect view, but he's offside.
"Like it or not, it's a fraction of an inch, but he's offside.
"If he got himself back onside, he'd have got a goal, and it was a lovely piece of play."
