There wasn't to be a victory to mark Nuno Espirito Santo's first game in charge of Tottenham Hotspur as Leyton Orient salvaged a draw in east London.
Naming a mixture of youth and experience in his first Spurs XI since becoming boss just over two weeks ago, the Lilywhites took a one-goal lead into the break courtesy of Dane Scarlett's opener.
Played in following a lovely first-time pass by Lucas Moura, the 17-year-old finished extremely well as he found the bottom corner with a low drive.
That just wasn't to be enough for Spurs, who made 11 changes in the second half, as the hosts equalised through Ruel Sotiriou towards the end of the encounter.
Attention will now turn to Wednesday evening's pre-season friendly away at Colchester United, with the new boss potentially having the likes of Ryan Sessegnon, Oliver Skipp, Erik Lamela and Matt Doherty available after they missed out on selection at The Breyer Group Stadium.
Having named four of the club's talented academy players in his starting team against Orient, Espirito Santo may want to take another look at Scarlett, Nile John, Kallum Cesay and Maksim Paskotsi when they travel to Essex.
In the case of Paskotsi, the 47-year-old may decide that he wants to see the player start in his natural position at some point in the pre-season period after he was named in the team at right-back with Doherty missing out.
A centre-back by trade, the Estonian international coped well down the right flank and limited the talented Daniel Nkrumah to very little.
The change of position for the 18-year-old also allowed him the opportunity to attack, something he does very little of normally due to his position at the heart of defence.
Linking up well with John early on, Paskotsi twice found himself in crossing positions but there just appeared to be a tad too much on the ball as he just about kept it in but couldn't generate enough power or accuracy to make his delivery count.
Paskotsi again looked to attack not long before the break as he was the furthest Tottenham player forward after John had sent a long ball down his side.
Managing to win possession off Connor Wood in the corner after some excellent play, the left-back somehow got a vital touch on the ball when he was down on the ground and it stopped the Estonian advancing towards the box.
He was again at it not long after the restart as a dangerous cross in from Spurs' left found its way to Paskotsi, who in turn used his pace to move away from his marker and win a free-kick close to the halfway line following a fine run.

Later picking out Steven Bergwijn with a cross in from the flank, Paskotsi's involvement in the game would come to an end on the hour mark as Espirito Santo made a total of ten changes.
An impressive showing from the player after the new boss handed him a chance in the side with so many first-team players away, the former Flora Tallinn ace will have his fingers crossed that another opportunity comes his way in midweek against Colchester United.
Speaking after the game, Espirito Santo praised the club's young players for stepping up and helping the first team in their pre-season preparations.
"The help of the U23s is so important for us because they allowed us to do good training sessions, allowed us to have numbers and bodies to work and try and mix the first team," he told Spurs TV.
"That play was a mix of young players that we think we believe can make this step and help us, and then the rest of the group.
"It's a big help for us, a big help, especially with players arriving from the national team and coming gradually, so we need all the U23s and we are very thankful for it."
A position Tottenham need to try and address this summer, the Estonian international could well come into Espirito Santo's thinking for the season on the back of an excellent pre-season campaign.
As a host of defenders will still be away for Wednesday's trip to Colchester, Paskotsi may find himself in the Spurs side under the new head coach once again.
