The Tottenham morning headlines as Ndombele training session explained while Spurs get inventive

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Wednesday, April 8.

Jimmy Greaves taken ill in hospital

Spurs' all-time record goal-scorer Jimmy Greaves has been taken ill in hospital with an undisclosed illness.

The former Spurs striker, who scored a remarkable 266 goals in 381, has experienced a number of health issues in recent years.

Back in 2015, Greaves suffered a stroke at the age of 75 which left him unable to speak and reliant on a wheelchair.

Rob Guest's full Tottenham Q&A

In a club statement on Tuesday, Spurs said: "We can confirm that our record goalscorer Jimmy Greaves is currently being treated in hospital.

"We are in touch with his family and will provide further updates in due course. Everybody at the Club sends their best wishes to Jimmy and his family."

A post on Greaves’ official Facebook page stated: "I can confirm Jimmy is in hospital tonight. We will release a statement tomorrow regarding the condition, please please respect the family and if you are press do not phone his home tonight.”

The truth on Ndombele’s personal training session with Mourinho

Spurs have been thrown into further hot water after pictures emerged of Jose Mourinho giving a personal training session to midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, amid government guidelines asking people to stay at home.

The two were pictured working together in Hadley Common near Barnet, and football.london understands thorough social distancing measures were observed during the session.

Davinson Sanchez and Ryan Sessegnon were also seen outside on Tuesday, with the pair filmed jogging together in their allocated slot of daily exercise.

We understand that the pair were not part of Mourinho’s training session alongside Ndombele but both live locally.

Spurs using innovative technology during lockdown

The continued break of Premier League football means that clubs are beginning to get inventive with the ways they track players’ fitness.

Spurs lead the race in using innovative technology, alongside north London rivals Arsenal, as the two Premier League clubs use GPS equipment.

Mourinho’s players have been provided with materials from STAT Sports which will enable the club to track the progress of individual players.

STAT’s products instantly synchronise with players’ phones and smartwatches through connection with the club performance team which enables ease of use.

Such technology will be used by Spurs and other leading Premier League clubs going forward as they continue to maintain fitness levels before the season resumes.
