The Tottenham morning headlines as Mourinho's approach blasted and Lo Celso faces no action

Here are your Spurs morning headlines for Sunday, February 23rd.

£20m striker eyed

According to the Sun, Spurs are one of three Premier League clubs to be keeping tabs on Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy along with West Ham and Brighton.

However, the report claims that the Hammers are leading the race for the Frenchman and could strike a deal soon.

Tottenham were looking at the striker as long-term cover for Harry Kane but the forward would prefer to be a regular starter in the Premier League.

Ferdinand blasts Mourinho's approach

Premier League legend Rio Ferdinand has blasted Jose Mourinho for his 'negative' approach to Tottenham's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

Goals from Olivier Giroud and Marcos Alonso gave the Blues a 2-0 lead, with Antonio Rudiger's late own goal not enough for Spurs to take anything from the game.

Tottenham went into the match without a fit striker, and Ferdinand has had his say on Mourinho's tactics.

"They give the initiative to Chelsea straight away. In a derby game you want to get against people and make it difficult," he said on BT Sport

"Don’t give people time on the ball. It is just so, so negative."

Lo Celso latest

One of the main talking points was the decision not to award Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso a red card for a challenge on Chelsea man Cesar Azpilicueta.

A VAR review decided that the challenge didn't merit the Argentinian being shown a red, but the PGMOL have since said that a mistake was made and that the Spurs man should have been sent off.

However, Lo Celso will not now face retrospective action despite the change in mind.

Waddle on Mourinho's Parrot decision

Former Spurs man Chris Waddle believes that Jose Mourinho should give young striker Troy Parrott a chance in the first team amid the absence of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min through injury.

"You only need to look at the likes of Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford to see what can happen if you take an early punt on a young striker," he told the Racing Post.

"Rooney was just 16 when he scored for Everton in the Premier League against Arsenal with Arsene Wenger hailing him the brightest talent this country had.

"Injuries offered Rashford a chance when he was a teenager and he scored two goals in a European game for Manchester United, kept his place and scored two more against Arsenal three days later.

"Sometimes you have to give a young striker a go – and now’s the time for Jose Mourinho to give Troy Parrott a shot."

Mourinho on Chelsea defeat

Jose Mourinho said he was proud of his players despite defeat against Chelsea on Saturday.

"I'm so proud of the boys they fought for the last seconds until a result. I cannot ask more from them, especially Lucas, Lo Celso, Bergwijn these boys that are playing every minute and trying to do miracles in positions that are not their positions. I cannot complain," he said in his post-match press conference.

"I am going to be repetitive. I would love to be at July 1. I would love to be in pre-season, working with Harry Kane, Sissoko and Sonny. That's not possible. We have three long months to go in three competitions where we are still [in it]. It's going to be three long months.

"These boys will learn a lot from that. They will learn about resilience, effort, going to their limits. So I think a very difficult experience for the boys, but a very good experience for the future."
