The Tottenham morning headlines as Mourinho is handed another injury blow, Ndombele speaks out

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Tuesday, 10th March.

Fresh injury blow

Spurs will be without £27m January transfer window signing Steven Bergwijn for tonight's Champions League round of 16 second leg tie against RB Leipzig because of injury.

This is the latest setback for head coach Jose Mourinho who is already without Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

Furthermore, the Dutchman is not expected to play again this season - while Ben Davies is also set to miss out against the Bundesliga outfit.

"Ben one week, two weeks. Steven , I don’t expect him to play this season," Mourinho told reporters . "I don't know if I use the correct word, traumatic injuries. Only the Harry Kane injury was not traumatic injury but a typical injury of the December period in the Premier League.

"But all the others - Hugo Lloris, Sissoko, Sonny, Steven now. Everything traumatic and never for a couple of weeks - always, but that’s what it is. We are used to it.

"We were psychologically more down with the other injures, because they were... this one, when you have three four or five to have six or seven is the same. No problem, no problem. We are very confident."

Ndombele speaks out

Tanguy Ndombele has broken his silence amid severe criticism from fans, pundits and manager Jose Mourinho.

The midfielder has failed to reach the heights expected of him since his club record signing from Lyon in the summer, with injuries preventing him from picking up a regular rhythm.

However, his latest performances have drawn severe criticism, with Mourinho substituting him at half-time of the 1-1 draw against Burnley and singling him out after the game for specific mention.

Ndombele has broken his silence on the matter, sending a post on Instagram with the message: "Keep the smile @championsleague #COYS".

Ndombele defended

Sticking with Ndombele and former England Sven-Goran Eriksson has revealed that he would not have hung the midfielder out to dry like Mourinho did.

"I don't really know. But of course he is very disappointed with the result," Eriksson said when appearing on Monday Night Football for Sky Sports . "But they have their own style, of course.

"But personally, I would be afraid to do what Mourinho did because I would be afraid of losing the player for a long time.

"Maybe Mourinho will not lose him because, maybe, he can do things Monday and Tuesday and so on.

"But maybe it is fair, the criticism.

"But I would have done it in the dressing room together with him or in my office."

Alli's reaction

In the first-leg against RB Leipzig, Spurs midfielder Dele Alli caused quite the scene when he reacted angrily at being substituted.

Something which he puts down to frustration.

"Yeah I think you can see that I was very frustrated, everyone could see that," he told reporters . "It's probably something I've not thought about much since it happened because we switched straight back into another game.

"I was obviously disappointed to come off for many reasons. If you ask any manager since I start playing football, I’ve never liked being subbed or brought off as much as I respect the manager’s decision. I understand that.

"Sometimes when you're losing a game you just have the mentality that you just want to win and be a part of it and help the team as much as you can.

I didn't play very well either in that game. I didn't help the team as much as I would have liked to. To come off at 1-0 down, sometimes the passion and frustration can get the better of you. I probably should have reacted a bit better but I care a lot."
