The Tottenham morning headlines as fans make Aarons transfer demand, Alderweireld admission

Here are your Tottenham Hotspur morning headlines for Saturday, 29th February.

Fans demand Max Aarons transfer

There was Friday night action from the Premier League as bottom of the table Norwich City sprung a surprise against Champions League chasing Leicester City at Carrow Road.

Left-back Jamal Lewis scored what turned out to be the only goal of the game with a fantastic strike, but it's the opposite full-back who caught the eye of Spurs supporters.

Max Aarons claimed the assist for Lewis and that's prompted Spurs fans to demand he makes the move to north London in the summer transfer window.

Below is what was said on Twitter...

Alderweireld admission

At one point last summer, Toby Alderweireld looked certain to leave Tottenham. He had a release clause which had to be activated two weeks before deadline day, but no club made an offer.

Amid talk of the Belgian leaving on a free transfer at the end of the season, he stunned many by signing a new contract towards the end of 2019.

And he puts that decision down to the appointment of Jose Mourinho who replaced Mauricio Pochettino in November.

"For me Jose Mourinho is an unbelievable people manager, someone who you want to travel eight hours by road to play on a Sunday after your son is born," Alderweireld told the  Daily Mail . "That’s the feeling you get, the feeling I have for him. You don’t want to disappoint him.

"I guess it looks like I am happier now because the former manager left and I signed a deal. But I was happy back then as well.

"There were a lot of things going on behind the contract but I’ve always been happy at Spurs and will always do my best for Spurs."

Owen predicts Spurs defeat

Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester United striker Michael Owen is predicting more misery for Spurs this weekend.

The Lilywhites are in action against Wolves tomorrow afternoon and Owen thinks Mourinho's side will be on the receiving end of a third straight defeat across all competitions.

"Spurs were well beaten at Stamford Bridge at the weekend and they are badly missing the goals and quality of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min," Owen stated in his column for BetVictor.

"No club side in the world could be as effective without, arguably, their two best players.

"Wolves have kept three successive clean sheets in the league, and they will leapfrog Spurs in the table with a win.

"If there is to be a winner at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, I feel it will be the visitors."

Mourinho defends Kane

Jose Mourinho has jumped to the defence of Harry Kane.

Much has been made of Kane coming back too soon in the past and not looking himself. When asked if that was a fear again this time, Mourinho spoke about the striker's controversial return last season.

"Are you speaking about the Champions League final? I would play only with one leg if I was a player and I was playing in a Champions League final, with crutches!" he said.

"How can you stop a player playing in a Champions League final? Every player breaks protocols to play a Champions League final or a cup final. There are some matches where protocols mean nothing, nothing.

"So if that was the case, I think it isn’t the case to blame Harry or medical departments.

"That is just the nature of the way football is."

Hojbjerg makes decision amid Tottenham links

Reported Tottenham transfer target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has explained his decision to change agents.

The 24-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract at Southampton and was linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the January transfer window.

However,  football.london  reported a move last month was unlikely.

But the Hojbjerg has now made a move that could increase speculation around his future by changing agents and joining with super agent Pini Zahavi.

"It’s all very simple. I ended my association with Søren Lerby around mid-December. Then I got the opportunity to work with Pini and took that opportunity," he told Danish outlet  BT .

"I am very happy to have Pini on my team. I don’t need to introduce him. His story speaks for itself. He is the master of his profession."
